Dressing room light
If the option exists, choose a dressing room with windows. At least one window is better than none and north facing is a plus. Natural lighting will create more appealing images (set the mood) than the use of artificial light.
Light the reception area
If your reception takes place in the evening, light the reception/dance floor background with Christmas lights, hanging bulbs, or rope lights. I personally do not like having a completely black background for dancing photos. A little bit of light in the background can make a huge difference. Hanging them just above head high is ideal. If the reception is outside, placing your dance floor under a tent will make a world of difference as well. The photographer can then bounce the flash up into the tent roof and produce a much more even light than the results you get using direct flash. A tent will also provide a structure to hang small lights on. Trees are also great for hanging lights.
Don't rush through the flower and garter toss
Take a few minutes and play with the crowd. I recommend chasing off the little kids because they can often be quicker and beat your bridesmaids and friends out of the flowers. Be sure to look up and check the ceiling for low hanging lights or ceiling fans that might intercept your flowers before reaching the crowd. A do-over is always recommended if something goes wrong.
Dance to the photographer
During fun dancing shots, wonderful images can be made if your wedding party would occasionally dance facing the photographer. Once in a while, showing off in front of the camera can give rewarding results.
